Xanthos(More than the color yellow)
Like everything, there’s actually a little bit more to our story. Xanthos was born out of our love for vintage items and specific taste for our daily lives. We would sometimes go out and not find anything we actually liked instores for special occasions. Too many trips around town, nothing that fit our vision, and a lack of uniqueness had us tired. Our need to find specific things would sometimes stray us very far away from our allotted budget and most times, still didn’t fit as we wanted. Sometimes you need to hit a wall to realize what you really want to do. We are very passionate about both modern and antique so we label our taste as eclectic. This is our brain child, fostered by the different visions for our space, clothing and how one can project themselves.
A Brief Note on Why Second Hand
Environmentally-friendly, sustainable, green. We’re all aware of what these words mean when we speak about what is best for the ecosystem. We have a consciousness and understand that there’s a lot of environmental strain placed by mass production. We all buy in bulk and from commercial stores. It’s not about stopping the commercial system, it's about making small changes that collectively change the big picture. Not all of us can go out and campaign for the planet, some of us don’t even have the time to do so, but what we can do is take steps towards being more green (and I’m not talking about the color).
Good thing is that we can start listing ways to help and never stop. One of our favorites (and by no means new) is re-using and buying second hand. This reduces that strain and prevents them from ending in landfills. Even the mug you were thinking of throwing away can make a very cute planter. As far as antique and vintage items go, they tend to be well-made and can be given a second life. Some love and a little vision is all we need to give something a new purpose.
Xanthos, Antiguo, Gerar Gyon. Which is it?
Well, we were two separate businesses (managed independently). Gerar Gyon was for vintage and antique home items. Antiguo was for vintage clothing and accessories. While we were discussing our shops, we realized we could manage them under one shop and add something we had placed on hold, handmade items and jewelry. A lot to take in, lots of dreams, lots of inventory between the two of us. It was a huge overhaul, but we did it with the help of our very important CEP (Chief Executive Pup) and Quality Assurance Manager, Ruby. Honestly, she was the most hardworking out of all of us. Here she is, working hard to check our inventory. Okay, so getting her to sit still is rarely successful so the next best thing to show her work ethic, a figurine of her!
